In 2006, volcanic eruptions occurred at four volcanoes. No persons were injured. At Miyakejima volcano, high SO₂ flux still continued.

Meakandake (Hokkaido)
Small eruption was observed in March.

Miyakejima (Izu-islands)
Small eruptions were observed in February and August. High volcanic gas flux still continued. SO₂ flux is decreasing in the long run and the present flux is 1000-3000 ton/day. Miyake page

Sakurajima (Kagoshima)
Vulcanian eruptive activity is still continueing. 15 explosions occurred in 2006. In June, eruptions took place at Showa crater that is located at the eastern flank near the summit.

Suwanosejima(Kagoshima, Tokara islands)
Active eruption and seismic activity continued.

Asama (Nagano-Gunma): Activity declined.
Kirishima (Kagoshima, Miyazaki): Volcanic tremors and fumarole at Shinmoe crater
Tarumae (Hokkaido) : High temparature in the crater
Hokkaido-Komagadake (Hokkaido) : Inflation continued
Kuchinoerabu (Kagoshima) : Seismic activity and ground deformation
Aso (Kumamoto) : Fumarolic activity at Yoshioka
Fuji (Shizuoka, Ymanashi) : Low frequency earthquakes
Discolored water areas were detected at some submarine volcanoes.
