In 2004, volcanic eruptions occurred at six volcanoes. No persons were injured. At Miyakejima volcano, high SO2 flux still continued and all of the inhabitants were evacuating out of the island. But they started to return to the island since February 2005.

Tokachidake (Hokkaido)
Very small eruptions were oberved in February and April .
Asamayama (Nagano, Gunma)

Miyakejima (Izu-islands)
Small eruptions were observed since November to December. High volcanic gas flux still continued. SO2 flux is decreasing in the long run and the present flux is 2000-5000 ton/day. Miyake page
Sakurajima (Kagoshima)
Vulcanian eruptive activity is still continueing. 11 explosions occurred in 2004.
Satsuma-Iwojima(Kagoshima, Tokara islands)
Many small volcanic earthquakes were observed. Volcanic tremors and ash falls were observed.
Suwanosejima(Kagoshima, Tokara islands)
Active eruption and seismic activity continued.

Kuchinoerabu (Kagoshima), Izu (Shizuoka), Izu-oshima (Izu islands), Hakone (Kanagawa) : Seismic activity
Kusatsu-Shiranesan (Gunma) : Disclored water in the crater lake
Fuji (Shizuoka, Ymanashi) : Low frequency earthquakes
Discolored water areas were detected at some submarine volcanoes.
